This is a recording of an audio-cassette home recording of 'Boesmanland' performed by Isaac Mafane and Ella 'Swartjan' van Niekerk. In Brandvlei, it is believed that the tune was composed by Swartjan in the first half of the twentieth-century. The date, location and recordist of the original recording are unknown, but the cassette was a gift to Kola Zandberg, who lives in Brandvlei. This audio sample accompanies Engela Britz's (2019) minor dissertation entitled "Songs in the Dust: Riel Music in the Northern and Western Cape, South Africa." Recorded by Engela Britz on January 18, 2018, in Brandvlei, Northern Cape, South Africa.
