Google Earth Engine (GEE) Sentinel-2 land cover classification and Landsat harmonised time series analyses from 1990 until 2020
This dataset was used to produce land cover change analyses for chapters two and three as part of a master's thesis titled- Repeatable methods for classification of Alien and native vegetation in the Montane grasslands (2024).
The dataset forms an integral part of feeding data to the Google Earth Engine (GEE) analyses. The data is loaded together with GEE code to first assess the performance of using a single-date composite image vs multi-temporal Sentinel-2 imagery in mapping alien and native vegetation in the Blyde River Canyon Conservancy and its surrounds. Afterwards, the code is used to produce a harmonised time series of land cover change between 1990 and 2020 in the Blyde River Canyon Conservancy and its surrounds for the third chapter.
In the second chapter 9 data entries are used to assess the performance of using a single-date composite image vs multi-temporal and they are listed as follows:
-Data points chapter 2 (variable points in GEE scripts)
-Study area (variable roi in GEE scripts)
-GEE_classified_map_2ndChapter_Figure2.6 (variable image in GEE scripts)
-Single-date composite image - GEE Analysis
-Single-date composite image- Surface Reflectance GEE functions (variable singlefunctions in GEE script)
-Multi-temporal analysis- data prep GEE script
-Multi-temporal analysis-model fitting GEE script
-Multi-temporal analysis-plotting results GEE script
-Multi-temporal analysis-Surface Reflection GEE functions (variable tsfunctions in GEE scripts)
The third chapter contains 24 data entries to create a harmonised time series of land cover change between 1990 and 2020 in the Blyde River Canyon Conservancy using the data below:
-Both Data prep and model fitting scripts from 1990 until 2020 (22 items)
-BKSS zipfile (variable study_area in GEE scripts)
-data points chapter 3 (variable alldata in GEE scripts)
Date of data collection: February 2020.
Location of data collection: Blyde River Canyon Conservancy and its surrounds, in Mpumalanga/Limpopo Provinces, South Africa.
