HIV Envelope clone sequences from 4 individuals coinfected with phylogenetically distinct viruses over 12 months
This is the data from a project completed and published in 2024 . They are DNA sequences of HIV-1 Envelope clones from the paper: The evolution of Envelope function during coinfection with phylogenetically distinct Human Immunodeficiency Virus. The Envelope clones were generated from sequences obtained by single genome amplification of variants circulating within individuals infected with two phylogenetically distinct variants. Sequences were obtained at the time that participants were enrolled into the CAPRISA study, and then at 3 subsequent visits over a period of 12 months. The clones were used to generate pseudovirus and then compared using an infection assay to determine how Env function changes over time as the variants evolve and increase in frequency. The project determined that viruses that increased in frequency at 12 months carried Envelope with enhanced infection capacity than those at enrolment into the study and that this was related to recombination and associated with increased CD4 cell counts.
