Leaf flammability research done in 2023 based on the fire that occurred in Cape Town, April 2021. The devastation left some questions as to why some species burned while others did not. It also inspired the question as to whether the exotic plants around the University of Cape Town and greater Cape Town region exacerbate fires when they occur. This study was done on 42 different species, 22 native and 20 exotic plants, around the University of Cape Town and Table Mountain. Leaf morphological traits were measured as well as leaf flammability traits to infer flammability of the plants and what drives it.
