STI point of care testing: costing model used in the STAX study

The costing model used to compare the resources and costs required for the provision of STI syndromic management versus point-of-care testing with GeneXpert versus a hypothetical non-point of care laboratory scenario in a South African setting. 


The model generated results regarding the average total cost per patient seen and tested for each scenario. For the syndromic management scenario, the average cost per patient seen was calculated. In the POC and Lab scenarios, the average costs per patient tested and treated if positive was calculated.
