This map is derived from a forthcoming masters thesis comparing Tweede Nuwe Jaar and Cape Town Carnival by Caitlin Honeywell. It is also featured in an article for the Archaeological Review from Cambridge 40(2).

The map shows the parade routes for Tweede Nuwe Jaar (in turquoise) and Cape Town Carnival (in dark pink). 'S' marks the start and 'E' the end of the route. This information is superimposed on a map of the Original Shoreline. The dark blue line marks where the shore used to go up to and the red line is the curated walking route. The Original Shoreline project uses markers to categorise the heritage: blue for 'maritime' brown for 'built environment' and pink for 'military'. I have added a marker for Granger Bay, where current developments are underway. The two locations encircled are discussed in my paper as sites of land reclamation.

The annotations I have added are based off my fieldwork in Jan-March 2025. The basemap is from the Original Shoreline website, using Open Map Tiles and Open Street Map.
