Dissertation Interviews Looking at the Role of CSR in Gold Mining Closure in SA -- Case Study interviews
These are transcripts from 5 semi-structured interviews done for the fulfilment of MPhil in ESS in the EGS department by dissertation and coursework. The interviews were with research participants that were held over Microsoft teams in the time span of October 2023 - January 2024. The transcripts uploaded here consist of the content from these dialogues from each participant, which lasted from 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Research participants were from two Gold mining companies, the CEO of the Federation of Sustainable Environment SA and the CEO from Agreenco (a third-party company that enacts closure demands from mining companies). The conversations sought to explore the role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in mine closure processes affecting the environment and communities, specifically looking into case studies of Gold Mining in SA. The research aimed to see what was being done well under CSR and what could be done better, exposing many facets of mining engagements entangled with closure and the spectrum of stakeholders this process involves.
