Khairat's Story and Song

This audio clip was recorded by Bronwen Clacherty in March 2018, in Jambiani, Zanzibar, Tanzania. The recording is an interview with Khairat, a member of a singing group in Jambiani. You can hear Khairat sing a song that she composed based on the history that Babu Bindu told the singing group. This audio sample accompanies Bronwen Clacherty’s (2021) PhD dissertation entitled “Understanding the History of Women's Lives in Zanzibar Through Song and Story: A Gendered Perspective.”
