This brief draws on a qualitative study which explored the ways in which rehabilitation services influence the sense of self and belonging of newly blind persons in South Africa. The study gathered substantial interview data from both rehabilitation service providers and service users at four rehabilitation organisations operating in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The study also included a discourse analytic review of eight websites of rehabilitation organisations from across South Africa.
