In 2017, the Department of Women launched the first draft of the Sanitary Dignity Policy Framework. In 2019, the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities took over the mandate of implementing and piloting the Sanitary Dignity Framework in each province in order to provide feedback to the Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities parliamentary working group.

This policy brief draws on the experiences of women and girls with disabilities, specifically those who became beneficiaries of the Sanitary Dignity Policy Framework implementation rollout. This brief is from the Driving Disability Inclusive Practice in Policy Processes: A Call for Evidence-Based Advocacy and Action monograph, which is Volume 7 in the Disability Catalyst Africa series.
