This audio clip was created by Bronwen Clacherty. It is a soundscape that accompanies the first movement of Clacherty’s doctoral performance, Tia Maji, which was performed on 2–4 October 2019 at the Theatre Arts Admin Collective, Observatory, Cape Town, South Africa. In the audio clip you can hear the sound of Babu Bindu speaking, the sound of the sea, women speaking, and the sound of drinking water being collected from a cave. This sample accompanies Bronwen Clacherty’s (2021) PhD dissertation entitled “Understanding the History of Women’s Lives in Zanzibar Through Song and Story: A Gendered Perspective.”
