A further variant of the South African hake 2019 Reference Case assessment model that includes the Namibian M. paradoxus survey abundance series as well as historical Namibian catches.
A reviewer cautioned regarding the conclusions of the Butterworth and Ross-Gillespie (2020) assessment of an assumed demographically panmictic M. paradoxus resource for the regions off South Africa and Namibia, that those analyses did not include an index of abundance for the Namibian part of this range. The only such index available – from surveys off Namibia – is incorporated into those earlier analyses. This index is indicated to be compatible with the results of those earlier analyses, and its inclusion therein is shown to have minimal impact on their results. Consequently, the concern expressed by the reviewer has been addressed and is indicated not to be of any great import.
