This working paper synthesizes existing research and policy on the localisation efforts within the South African context, and with the aid of the SATIMGE energy-economy model, provides an initial modelled assessment of the economy-wide effects of higher levels of local manufacturing of components of renewable energy technologies for the South African electricity sector, within the context of long-term pathways aligned with international goals to limit warming to well below 2°C.
