A Schaefer model is fitted to the time series of catches and abundance estimates for round herring to provide an Operating Model on which to base a simple MP for this resource. At this initial stage of evaluations, the MP is provided by setting the TAC to a constant proportion (F) of the average of the most recent two survey estimates of abundance, though limited to a maximum TAC of 200 kt and a change in TAC between years that does not exceed 15%. MP performance statistics over the next 10 years are presented for a series of F values, and for some robustness tests which modify the estimated values of the Schaefer model parameters.
