Susan Cleary

Susan Cleary is an Associate Professor in Health Economics at the University of Cape Town with close to 20 years’ experience in health economics research and teaching, particularly within the economic evaluation of interventions in the public health system. She has published widely in high impact journals and her work has influenced government policy. She coordinated the economics and costing components of the South African National Strategic Plans for HIV, TB and STIs for the 2007-2011 and 2012-2016 periods. She has held a number of teaching and research capacity development/leadership roles including Director of the Health Economics Unit (2007-2012), convener of the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Economics (2007-2014; 2018 to date) and convener of the PhD Programme in Public Health (2014 to date).
