Notes on the dataset

There are a seven files in this dataset (excluding this READme.txt):

Below is a description of the manner in which each file was used.

Patent dataset of Orhtopaedic device innovation in South Africa.pdf comprises a list of patents which was generated following from the
Methodology of the publication. It is listed in chronological order. This list of patents was used in 5-year moving window periods to
determine the organisational actors who contribute towards knowledge development and knowledge diffusion through networks for orthopaedic
device innovation in South Africa. The Methodology of the publication describes how to use these patents to derive organisational actors.

The three network diagrams of Figure 2, were genreated using UCINet and Netdraw:
1. Figure 2(a) uses the input files Node matrix_2000-2004.xlsx and Node Attributes 2000-2004.txt 
2. Figure 2(b) uses the input files Node matrix_2005-2009.xlsx and Node Attributes 2005-2009.txt 
3. Figure 2(c) uses the input files Node matrix_2011-2015.xlsx and Node Attributes 2011-2015.txt 

The attribute files allow for the delineation of nodes based on their location and sector, as well as assign degree centrality values to the 
nodes.
